About Us
The Moro Moro Scholarship Fund (MMSF) began with a simple but profound idea: that one person's commitment to their community can create lasting change, and that education is the most powerful tool to do it.

"Opportunity + hard work = success."
OUR FOUNDER
In the late 1980s, Daniel Valverde, a Moro Moro, Bolivia, native, rallied his Pennsylvania community to buy a bulldozer to open a road in the remote village. That first project grew into years of support, with the group supplying the village with sewing machines, school materials, and teacher funding. Eventually, Valverde saw the greatest need: helping students continue their education beyond high school.
In 1997, MMSF sent its first scholar to college in Santa Cruz, covering their living expenses, books, and supplies. In return, the student committed to achieving academic excellence and giving back to Moro Moro after graduation.
Today, MMSF Scholars continue to transform their community, and the program has expanded to a second campus, bringing higher education within reach for even more students.
Although Valverde left this earth too soon, his mission and vision live on. Under the guidance of his loved ones, the scholarship fund continues to thrive and grow.
WHERE IN THE WORLD IS MORO MORO?

Moro Moro is set in the eastern foothills of the Andes in Bolivia, South America. The town is a 12-hour bus ride from the nearest large city. Moro Moro is rich in culture but lacking in opportunity and financial means. Many of the residents have grown up in homes without running water. Daniel Valverde and some friends started the Moro Moro Scholarship Fund to help give the residents of the village a chance at a brighter future.
