About the Scholarship Fund

The Moro Moro Scholarship Fund assists the most deserving secondary school graduates from the mountain village of Moro Moro, Bolivia, with tuition, materials, room, and board for post-secondary education at the state university in the city of Santa Cruz. The purpose of The Moro Moro Scholarship Fund is to end the painful cycle of poverty in Moro Moro. Like many young people in the villages of rural Bolivia, the gifted individuals selected as Moro Moro Scholars have extremely limited resources. Without scholarship funds their chances for higher education would be remote. The Fund offers them the chance to work and study hard, to learn a profession, to earn a living with dignity, to contribute back to the welfare of their community, and to help others to do the same.

To merit a scholarship, the Moro Moro Scholarship Fund candidate must demonstrate clear financial need, a high potential for academic success as evidenced by performance at the secondary level, and positive moral character and excellent reputation in the village. The governing Council of the village of Moro Moro nominates the several top prospective scholars from the graduating class of the secondary school each year. Nominees are reviewed and the top scholar is selected by the Board of Directors in the United Stated.

Because of demand, the typing lab schedules day and night classes.

Each selected Moro Moro Scholar signs a contract with the Moro Moro Scholarship Fund to abide by written scholarship requirements that include good grades, unquestionable behavior, and successful graduation from the five-year university program. Each Scholar contracts at the beginning to contribute ten percent of his or her first year's net income back to the Moro Moro Scholarship Fund, and to use his or her professional skills in some way for the benefit of the village for an agreed-upon period of time.
